Dear Residents of Grand Terrace

We reside on Royal Ave directly behind the Grand terrace high school.

The students band practice is being held directly behind our houses. It starts early morning on Saturday and Sunday and last up to the evening. The drumming is constant all day long, at this point we have 2 groups of several drummers. Each group consist of 7 students, so the one group has 3 to 4 drums in front of them and the 2nd group have the big base drums. One  group is to the left close the school but directly behind the fences/ back yard of the residence of Royal Ave. The other group is between the baseball field fence and our back yards/ fences. The noise is so disruptive we have no peace and it is so annoying.

You can’t spend any time out side, you can’t even have a conversation if you were outside. The drumming can be heard inside the houses and actually feel in your body at times. Turning up the TV doesn’t help the consistent beating is actually driving this neighborhood crazy. Each neighbor has complained you can actually hear them shouting and screaming over their fences at the conductors and the students please OMG can you stop!!!and go away!!! Some have resorted to using other language.

The grand terrace high school has a huge area of open fields for them to practice. Why do they need to practice so close to the houses on Royal Ave?  During the summer the students practice blowing horns  at the hand ball courts or tennis courts early in the morning until late at night. The same music over and over again. If you have a family activity at your home, your guest are asking how do you live with that.  The residents on Royal have all said we’re fed up and  its driving us nuts.

There is an auditorium and there are other areas of the school that have no homes line up on the sides. We’re not asking for the students to stop practicing but we are asking that they move to the other side of the field by the football field to hold their band practice. For the teachers/ conductors if this was their home they would find a different place to practice and or the parents of these students they sure would not want this annoying disruption going on in their neighborhood.

We have called the sheriff and they have heard the noise over the phone. The dispatcher could only say I ‘m so sorry no one should have to live like that and we can’t do anything its actually up to the school.

So we all pay our taxes for the school and what’s funny our children are grown and on their own, but we still pay taxes for the school on which the sheriff department police department can’t help us with and funny we pay taxes for them also.

We need help… I sent a message to the Asst. Superintendent of the Colton unified school district and of course have not heard anything from them. MY neighbor has left messages with the principle numerous times and have not received any call back...

Please help us

Sincerely,

Pamela S resident of Grand Terrace
