Only one student from Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, MVUSD student Sara Jackson, has been selected to participate in the American Choral Directors Association Western Regional Youth Treble Honor Choir.

The organization auditions high level musicians from the western region of the United States including California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. She was selected along with 88 other students in grades three through six. Sara Jackson has been a student in the Moreno Valley Unified School District for her entire education thus far. She attended Northridge elementary where she participated in the school’s band program playing Alto Saxophone for her 4th and 5th grade years. She has also participated in youth choir programs from pre-K on within her church and has been involved in the arts both on a community and school level for most of her education.

She has had the opportunity to be cast in a community production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast as an enchanted object and villager in 2018. In these roles she performed by dancing, singing, and acting which encouraged and advanced her abilities and desire to participate in other arts programs. She also had the opportunity to be one of two elementary students to participate in the District Vocal Arts Camp as she was selected to perform in a duet performance for the District Leadership Summit in 2018 where she performed for all of the districts fine leadership team. She chose to transfer to Vista Heights Middle School to be able to continue her participation in Vocal music within the wonderful music/theater program of Director, Autumn Earl-Rodriguez. She is in her 6th grade year at Vista Heights and is participating in the Advanced Choir class there.

She had a desire to audition for the American Choral Directors Association Regional Honor Choir, which auditions high level musicians from the western region of the nation including California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. She was selected as the only representative in the inland empire for the Youth Treble Honor Choir along with 88 other students in grades three through six. She is overwhelmed by the honor and is so excited to have been selected.

She looks forward to performing in the ACDA Youth Treble Honor Choir for the American Choral Directors Association Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah March 4-7, 2020. She is so grateful to have received the support from the district and school site to attend. She would like to thank Mrs. Rodriguez for believing in her and also Greg Solomon for supporting her in her arts participation in the district and in all the wonderful solo performances she has had the opportunity to perform in.
