Grand Terrace Titans started the game with a strong offensive drive with a little bit of everything. With running and passing for first downs, capping it off with Lonzel Bradford #13, missing his defender for an 18-yard touchdown.
Fontana Steelers Joseph Buciaga #1 had an outstanding return of 50 yards down to the opponent 30-yard line. After a face mask and roughing the passer penalty, Fontana is in business with a first and goal at the 8-yard line. Fontana Steelers were stopped at the 2-yard line after getting stuffed by the GT defensive line.
GT started their possession at the 2-yard line trying to get out of dangerous safety territory. A pass to Bradford #13 gave them a first down as he shed off 3 defenders for 25-yard first down giving the Titans breathing room on fourth down for a punt by Kyle Waldon #16 for 35 yards giving Fontana the ball at their own 22-yard line.
On a three and out, Fontana tried for a punt but was blocked by Quincy Preston #20 leaping to block the punt as if he was reaching for the moon. Ryon Sheppard #28 scooped up the blocked punt to give Grand Terrace a first and goal.
Mekhi Lewis #12 pocket collapsed on fourth and goal on the 2. He sprinted to the pylon with defenders on his behind and scored on another clutch broken play. GT went for two to make up for the failed extra point and once again Bradford #13 caught the pass with a defender drenched in front of him.
Lewis #12 threw a moon shot to Dominic Balderrama #19 where only he was able to catch it for 44 yards getting them into the red zone. A fourth and goal dropped pass led to a turning over on downs to Fontana Steelers at their own 4-yard line.
Grand Terrace swarming blitzed led to a tipped interception by Damion Williams #4 making some moves for a 15-yard return to 6-yard line. Grand Terrace took advantage of the turnover with a 2-yard bulldozing run by Anthony Valencia #33 for the touchdown!
Another great return by Fontana kick return team started their drive on GT’s 48-yard line. Fontana tried to pass the ball but Grand Terrace D-line got through quick with David Gusta #60 close lining the quarterback and picking up the fumble.
Just before halftime Grand Terrace had the ball at the 40-yard line with 2:20 on the board. Gearing up for a 2-minute drill completing a pass to Garrett Ostrinski #15 for a 42- yard catch and run down to the 18-yard line. Jeremy Massey #37 capped it off with an 18-yard scamper to the end-zone to extend the lead to 28-0.
Fontana Steelers looking to put points on the board before the half. Grand Terrace own Carlos Morales #7 had a quick jump on the wobbly pass and picked it off.
Grand Terrace put a dagger in their comeback hopes with a touchdown with a minute left before halftime. Lewis #12 laid up a dime to Bradford #13 for the dagger. This connection between Bradford #13 and Lewis #12 is almost unstoppable and is going to be put on notice to Sunkist League opponents. On the 2-point play Corey Young #18 made an amazing grab for the conversion.
The Halftime show this week is a must watch as they escorted the Homecoming court onto the field in Corvette’s for the announcement of the Homecoming Queen. The Homecoming court included: Brianne Ramirez, Nayeli Rios, Joanna Guerro, Valerie Jimenez, and Tiffany Alcazar. The announcement of Homecoming Queen was a very suspenseful moment as they announced the winner... Tiffany Alcazar!!! The crowd showed excitement for her as they cheered loud.
Fontana is coming out of halftime looking to make a statement by getting 3 consecutive first downs passing the ball. Grand Terrace defense was playing outstanding when being in difficult situations stuffing the run for a fourth and goal at the 5-yard line. Fontana’s quarterback Calvin Burnach #13 tried to escape the pocket but was reeled down by Ryan Wright #59 for a turnover on downs.
Fontana had first and goal after a flag for illegal hit to the head on Grand Terrace. Lupe Prieto #6 blitzed and got through untouched for a sack. Grand Terrace d-line jumped in front of a screen pass but couldn’t come up with it on a turnover on downs.
Grand Terrace put in the young guns to get some varsity experience for next year. Michael Kearns #22 is showing he can handle these Fontana starters getting 2 catches for 35 yards on his first drive. Grand Terrace killed the clock by running the ball as they got their second straight league win and closer to repeating as Sunkist League champs as they play their cross-town rivals Colton Yellow-Jackets next week who is also on a 2-game winning streak. Fontana Steelers are going to have a lot of film to go over as they have a home game vs Summit next week and are still looking for their first win of the season.
