Titans Face-Off with Trojans

Grand Terrace went on the road to Norte Vista High School to play against Hillcrest High to try to get their first win of the season and also gain some momentum for the rest of the season. Hillcrest Trojans were coming from a tough loss from playing against Norte Dame losing 31-39.

Hillcrest received the ball first. 

After a first down Malachi Morrison #7 of GT jumped a quick pass play and picked it off returning it for 13-yards to the opponent 13-yard line. Malachi L. Compton #2 bulldozed in for the 1-yard touchdown putting up points quick for Grand Terrace taking a quick lead 7-0.

Asanti Mokwala #7 of Hillcrest returned it for 23-yards down to the 33-yard line where they started the drive. After a holding call on Grand Terrace, David Gusta #60 sacked the Trojan Quarterback down to force a punt.

GT punted after a three and out. Hillcrest has gotten three first downs in a row off a couple of QB scrambles and a long 20-yard pass to Johnny Rivera #15 setting up first and goal. The Running Back Manny Robert #9 motioned to the left side catching a pass running to the touchdown marker for the 9-yard touchdown catch and run. The score was now 7-7.

Rohan Preston #20 returned a bounced kickoff return of 28-yards to give the Titans a great position on the 34-yard line. A toss left to Malachi L. Compton #2 breaks to the open field after cutting back running down the right side of the field for 50-yards down at the 22-yard line of Hillcrest. GT turnover the ball after a dropped pass on 4th and 7.

Hillcrest takes over at the 19-yard line, at the 23-yard line the Trojans ran the ball with Asanti Mohwala #7 as he sprinted up the left side untouched and dusted the whole GT defense for a 77-yard rushing touchdown making the lead 14-7. 

Grand terrace is driving with their energized run game subbing in Malachi Morrison #7 at RB picking up 3 straight first downs with consecutive 10 plus yard runs setting them up at the goal line. Malachi Morrison #7 picking up the first down on 4th and 2 making it first and goal. GT wasn’t able to score with first and goal on the 6-yard line giving Hillcrest the ball on the 6. Manny Robert #9 broke off for a 94-yard blazing fast rushing touchdown but was called back by a holding penalty.

With a minute left Hillcrest started on their own 25-yard line drove and connected to Xavier Banks #21 WR for 53-yards. Next play the Quarterback, Camren Payne #1 connects to his guy Xavier Banks #21 for the 12-yard touchdown with 12 seconds left before half. Hillcrest scoring 21 unanswered points before halftime holding onto a 21-7 lead with Grand Terrace receiving the ball after halftime. 

Grand Terrace came out of halftime on fire bursting down the field in 6 plays scoring on an acrobatic catch and run by Lonzel Bradford #13 for 25-yards giving Mekhi Lewis #12 his first touchdown pass of the season. GT closing the lead 21-14. 

Grand Terrace defense came out aggressive with sacks by Joshua Franco #52 and David Gusta #60 forcing a punt. 

Hillcrest Trojans now with the ball back finally got a first down on a deep pass to Manny Robert #9. With the ball on the 50-yard line on 3rd and long and the pocket collapsed on him getting sacked by Anthony Correra #65 forcing fourth down. 

Grand Terrace blocked the punt starting their drive with great scoring territory on the 40-yard line.  Mekhi Lewis #12 deep pass to Garrett Ostrinski #16 that made it first and goal on the 6-yard line. After Mekhi Lewis #12 got sacked, he followed up the play with Lewis #12 that forced a pass into double coverage to Lonzel Bradford #13 but was picked off by Asanti Mohwala #7 touchback interception. 

First play of the drive on the 20-yard line Manny Robert #9 found another open hole and took it 80 yards to the house for his 3rd rushing touchdown of the game shaking up the whole game making the GT Titan parents go crazy with GT losing 28-14 with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.

The 4th quarter started with a couple of fumbles by both teams each getting recovered by the defenses. 

GT finally getting the ball back, backed up in their own endzone on the 8-yard line. Malachi L. Compton #2 ran for the first down. Next play Mekhi Lewis#12 threw a 30-yard pass to Dominic Balderrama #3 for another first down.

Next play Mekhi Lewis #12 tried to squeeze in a slant pass to Dominic Balderrama #3 but Manny Robert #9 aggressively ripped the ball away intercepting the ball with 4 minutes to play.

Hillcrest Trojans ran the ball gaining a couple first downs draining the clock and finally kneeing the ball coming out with the season home opener Win 28-14.
