Redlands Police are investigating a series of thefts this week in the 1400 block of Medallion Street in which victims allowed the suspect, posing as electrical company service person, into their homes.

According to victims in three reported incidents, the suspect, a Hispanic female between 35 and 40 years old, knocked on their doors posing as an employee of an electric company and claiming she was there to sell or replace light bulbs.

Once inside the home, the suspect stole various items before leaving.

Two of the incidents occurred between 3 and 5 p.m. April 24; one incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on April 23.

Redlands Police warn residents to take steps to protect themselves:

• Never respond to unsolicited offers of service.

• Always ask to see identification from service providers.

• Have unexpected service people wait outside while you contact their company or employer to confirm their identity or ask the person to leave their information and return at a later time. Be sure to look up the company’s contact information yourself. Do not use the number listed on the individual’s business card as it may be a fake.

• Be cautious of service people who demand payment before work is performed and never pay in cash or provide your credit card information for service that has not been completed.

• Report any suspicious person, vehicle or activity to Redlands Police by calling 911 or Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681, ext. 1.

• Share information about unusual or suspicious persons or behavior with your neighbors.

• Keep your doors locked even when you are at home.
