The Redlands Symphony has announced a major gift from David and Robin Maupin, long-time Redlands community leaders and philanthropists, that will be used to fund a principal musician’s chair in the orchestra.  The $50,000 gift will be placed in the Jon Robertson Legacy Endowment, with any earnings going toward the cost of maintaining the principal viola chair.

“Robin and I are very proud of the Redlands Symphony,” said Maupin, “We are committed to working with the organization to help secure its future.  This is a first step toward that goal.  Ultimately, we want to help build a $20 million endowment for the Symphony that secures its future forever.”

“This is an important milestone in the Symphony’s ongoing efforts to create a solid future for this venerable organization,” said Jerry Bean, Chair of the Redlands Symphony Association, “On behalf of myself and the entire board, we are grateful to the Maupins for once again demonstrating their vision and leadership in supporting the arts and culture in Redlands and the region.”

The Redlands Symphony is currently presenting its 68th season and the second season under the baton of Maestro Ransom Wilson.

“On behalf of myself and our musicians, we are grateful for the Maupin’s belief in our orchestra,” said Maestro Wilson, “Having a community like Redlands with people like the Maupins who believe in and are willing to support the arts, is tremendously important. We are all extraordinarily grateful.”

The Redlands Symphony is an independent nonprofit organization.  The Symphony presents a season of six live concerts each year and performs each summer at the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival.  The group also provides music education opportunities for young people through its OrKIDstra program that presents four live concerts each school year and the Redlands Summer Music Academy for kids aged 8 to 14.

The Symphony raises 80% of its budget from individual donors, grants, and special funding initiatives.
