The Habit’s Sustainability Partners Award

The Habit Burger Grill recently opened for business and is already being honored with a Sustainability Partners Award from the City of Colton Electric Utility’s Sustainability Division for their excellence in recycling and organic recycling. Laws in California governing appropriate disposal of trash now mandate the disposal of organics such as food scraps, in addition to recycling paper, plastic and cardboard.

The Habit Burger Grill management and staff enthusiastically met the challenges to recycle organics by working with Belen Cordero, the City’s Sustainability Specialist through CR&R Franchise Agreement. Part of the process is to have 3 receptacles, for trash, recycles and organics. The Habit did exemplary work at training staff and meeting the challenge above and beyond fellow businesses, and will serve as an example to other food establishments to recycle their organics. All organics will be sent to the CR&R Anaerobic Digestion facility in Perris to be transformed into natural gas.  Businesses like The Habit, together with the City and CR&R, are helping to save the environment.

Council Members and a few others gathered at The Habit for a ribbon-cutting and to watch the establishment be honored with the award.
