As the final inning comes to an end, the cheers of family members start to take over the baseball field as their child’s team just won the game. This happened not once, but twice as two Grand Terrace teams won the District 21 Tournament. For this season, the Grand Terrace Junior Softball All-Star and the Grand Terrace Minor Division All-Star team won. Both teams were undefeated and this year’s Minor team was the first to ever win a District tournament. It is such an enormous achievement for both teams and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their accomplishments.

For their dedication and hard work, both teams and coaches went to City Hall to be honored. Surrounded by Grand Terrace representatives, all teams received a certificate of recognition and a key to the city pin. Each team banded together, practiced hard and became an undefeated family.

As District winners, both teams advanced on to compete in the Section 8 Tournaments against neighboring Districts. The Junior Division Softball team started their Section 8 games on June 24th, but sadly lost the Section 8 title. On July 14th, the Boys Minor Division team won their first game of the Section 8 Championship against Vineyard District 71. They played again on July 16th against Rancho Cucamonga.

Baseball and softball can be a rough sport, but it teaches the players such valuable skills. The Grand Terrace Little League wants their players to build their self-esteem, sportsmanship and leadership skills. These valuable traits can positively affect a child’s life and help them in the future. Most of all, the league wants everyone to have fun and enjoy the game. Sports like this can help build friendships and create memories that they will never be able to forget.

Since July is coming to a close, the Grand Terrace Little League is accepting winter ball registrations. They are welcoming players ages 4 years old and up. There is a $40 fee and parents can register their child select Wednesdays like August 1st, 8th and 15th and one Saturday on August 18th at Veterans Freedom Park. Your children can become a part of something great so get a glove and head out onto the field.
