Symphony Presents Charles Dickens Classic

For the first time in decades, the Redlands Symphony invites music-lovers to celebrate the holiday season with the orchestra’s fully-staged production of the Charles Dickens classic story A Christmas Carol – The Concert on Saturday, December 15, 2018 in Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Redlands.  Maestro Ransom Wilson will conduct the Redlands Symphony.  A. Scott Parry serves as stage director.  With original music composed and arranged by Bob Christianson and lyrics and book by Alisa Hauser, the Emmy © nominated music spectacular will be a western states premiere.  

“Music is an important part of what makes the holiday season special,” says Maestro Ransom Wilson, “And this production of A Christmas Carol – The Concert is packed with warmth and entertainment.  We’re blessed with an outstanding cast of accomplished singers who will be portraying the principal characters from the Dickens story and the wonderful voices of the Inland Master Chorale.  We’ve been working on the production for months to insure we give our audience an evening of unforgettable holiday musical magic.”

Bob Christianson is a composer, arranger, keyboard player and conductor.  He was honored to have the Baltimore Symphony premier his, “A Christmas Carol – The Concert” in December of 2011.

Mr. Christianson is the composer, arranger and executive producer of the WTTW-PBS Special, A Christmas Carol – The Concert. The show received a Primetime Emmy © Nomination in 2014 for “Outstanding Music & Lyrics”.

He also co-arranged (with Gary Anderson) another orchestra piece that has become a holiday staple, “Too Hot to Handle,” which has been performed by many orchestras around the country, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.

His new musical, “Take Me America” (book & lyrics by Bill Nable) had a two-month run at the prestigious “Village Theatre” in Seattle, which was the original home of the hit Broadway shows “Next to Normal” and “Million Dollar Quartet.”

Bob was the most called upon composer for the HBO series “Sex and The City”. He was nominated for an Emmy for his music for ABC Sports and has scored many series for the Discovery family of networks, including “Secrets of The National Parks” and “The Blue Angels-A Year In The Life”.  His television credits include “Mysteries of The Museum” (Travel Channel) and the iconic “NCAA Basketball Theme” for CBS.  He has also scored “Life Is Wild” (for the CW), “The Equalizer” (CBS), “Gimme A Break” (NBC), and “The Winter Olympics” (CBS).  Bob has written over 25 award winning sports themes for CBS, ESPN & ABC.

Mr. Christianson’s orchestral works have been performed by The Baltimore Symphony, The Colorado Symphony, The Concordia Orchestra, The Florida Orchestra, and others.
