Rancho Cucamonga High School student Linda Reynoso and Colony High School student Dulce Martinez were among 10 seniors in the Chaffey Joint Unified School District (CJUSD) surprised with letters of admission to the University of Redlands on December 12. U of R officials made site visits to congratulate Early Action applicants at Los Osos, Etiwanda, Rancho Cucamonga, and Colony high schools.

“As the largest school district with whom we’ve partnered, a guaranteed pathway like this does not thrive without strong collaboration among students, teachers, counselors, principals, and district leadership,” said Kevin Dyerly, vice president for enrollment at U of R. “We are grateful for the support from our Chaffey JUSD partners in helping coordinate the special hand-deliveries of admission and scholarship offers to a number of their talented students this week and hope that many of these students join the Bulldog community next fall.”

At Los Osos High School, Principal Joshua Kirk joined the U of R team to surprise students Rylee Langlois, Elly Revard, Jenelle Dorotta, Monhini Vadalia, Mikhail Mikhalev, and Lance Parrish during a school site leadership meeting.

At Etiwanda High School, Principal Don Jaramillo and the entire counseling department joined the surprise for student Megan Peterson in her classroom and student Charlene Sangalang who was caroling to different classrooms with her choral music group.

Rancho Cucamonga High School Assistant Principal Jeremy Hansen was happy to lead the U of R team to student Linda Reynoso and surprise her in the classroom. Colony High School Principal Eric Danhoff and Assistant Principal Tiffany Bunn joined in the fun of surprising student Dulce Martinez.

This was the first year of admission surprises for CJUSD. Dr. Virginia Kelsen, executive director of career readiness for CJUSD, organized the visits and joined U of R officials at each school. CJUSD is one of the districts in the region partnering with U of R through a memorandum of understanding that guarantees admission for all students who meet minimum graduation requirements. Surprise visits were also made in other partnering districts — Redlands Unified and Yucaipa-Calimesa school districts.
