Season Opener is a Slam Dunk

Grand Terrace’s Community Basketball League is not your everyday youth basketball league. Composed of a dedicated team of volunteers, driven to promoting community well-being and constructive fun for the youth, the GTCB has gained significant momentum within the the last recent years going so far as to even gain backing from the LA Clippers.

The air that Sunday morning in the Grand Terrace High School gymnasium was filled with that same electric excitement you get before any professional game. Teams rush around in their collegiate inspired team jerseys as they prepare for team photos that will mark the start of season. Family members, and friends alike crowd the bleachers to find the best spot to watch the game, while avidly waiting for their favorite team to hit the court.

Finally, the teams all line up and music played through the gym, signifying the start of open ceremony. GTCB Vice President Mr. Dre Davis welcomed all and introduced the competing teams along with his fellow volunteer staff members who helped put the whole event together all while accompanied by the comedic relief of Chuck the Condor. Chuck is the mascot to the LA Clippers; who also had a booth set-up that day, offering Clippers merchandise and offering a reduced price for their summer camp for those who signed up that day.

After the initial introduction and a thank you to all who came and supported, Mr. Davis read a statement from the city’s Mayor, Mayor McNaboe who, although she was not able to be present, shared the importance and value of teamwork, also reminding the kids to have fun, and thanking the coaching staff for their participation and dedication they’ve made to make this league as successful as it is.

A great way to kick off another successful season for the organization!
