Redlands Symphony's Spectacular 70th Anniversary

The Redlands Symphony celebrates seven decades of classical music-making in the Inland Empire with its 2019-20 concert season featuring a world premiere, internationally acclaimed soloists and the newest edition of Music Director Ransom Wilson’s special concert series featuring the works of Mozart. The season also includes “A Classical Christmas” concert and a program featuring works by celebrated American composers. Full season subscriptions start at $81 or pick your favorite four concerts with a Pick-4 subscription starting at $61.20. Single tickets start at just $18. Tickets may also be purchased at the box office on the night of the concert.

“The Redlands Symphony has been a shining star in Southern California’s performing arts constellation for 70 years and the orchestra’s musical standard gets better with each passing year,” according to Maestro Ransom Wilson, “This season will take our musical performances to a new level with the presentation of MAHLER’S Symphony No. 1 “Titan” and an entire concert program featuring our magical strings players. There’s so much to enjoy and celebrate in this extraordinary season.”

The Symphony’s 70th Anniversary season is sponsored in part by a generous gift from Marilyn Solter and Family.

The Redlands Symphony performs six concerts during its regular season. All concerts are performed in Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Redlands.

Redlands Symphony’s 70th Anniversary Season

November 16, 2019: An Evening of Firsts featuring the World Premiere of a new orchestral fanfare by Sean FRIAR, one of America’s up-and-coming composers. The piece was commissioned by the Redlands Symphony to mark the orchestra's 70th Anniversary. “This new work will be a fitting way to celebrate the Symphony’s 70 years of serving Redlands and the Inland Empire with wonderful orchestral music,” according to Maestro Wilson, “Sean’s work is creative and exciting. I know this piece will capture the spirit and uniqueness of Redlands.” The concert program will also include BEETHOVEN’S Symphony No. 1 in C major and Symphony No. 1, “Titan” by MAHLER. The November concert is sponsored in part by a generous gift from Betsy and Bob Heinze.

December 14, 2019: A Classical Christmas will celebrate this joyful season in music and song featuring a program that includes RESPIGHI’S Three Botticelli Pictures, BRITTEN’S Men of Goodwill, TCHAIKOVSKY’S Suite from The Nutcracker , and DUKE ELLINGTON’S jazzy Nutcracker Suite. The program will end with a Christmas Sing-Along featuring traditional holiday favorites.

January 18, 2020: The String Serenade concert will feature HOLST’ S St. Paul’s Suite, Quatuor en Serenade by RAVEL and TCHAIKOVSKY’S Serenade for Strings. “I’ve wanted to feature our incredible string players in a concert for a long time,” Maestro Wilson explains, “This January concert will give them a chance to really shine.” The January concert is sponsored in part by a generous gift from Loma Linda University Health.

February 15, 2020: Maestro Wilson’s fascination with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart continues with a concert featuring two piano concertos performed by renown pianist, ANN-MARIE McDERMOTT. Ms. McDermott has performed as a soloist in concerts and recitals throughout the world and is a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. “I’ve wanted to bring Ann-Marie’s phenomenal talent to the Redlands Symphony since I arrived,” Maestro Wilson says, “Her schedule finally worked with ours, and the audience will be the big winner. She’s amazing!”

Ms. McDermott will perform MOZART’S Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major, “Jeunehomme” as well as the composer’s Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major. The program also includes the genius composer’s Symphony No. 40 in g minor. The February concert is sponsored in part by a generous gift from Kristin and Richard Thibedeau.

Concerts begin at 8 PM. Doors to Memorial Chapel open at 7 PM and there is a pre-concert talk that begins at 7:15 PM.
