The 37th Redlands Community Hospital Foundation Golf Classic for the Ken Corwin Cup is just over a month away, and already organizers are looking forward to raising a record amount of support for the hospital. The tournament, with an estimated 144 golfers expected to participate, will be held on June 20, 2019, at Redlands Country Club.

The Redlands Community Hospital Foundation has named Susan & Paul Shimoff, tournament sponsors as Honorary Co-Chairs for the 37th tournament. This year, all net proceeds will support the hospital’s emergency department expansion that is now in the second phase of construction.

“The Golf Classic is always a very special event,” said Kathy Meredith, vice president of Pacific Premier Bank and RCH Foundation board chair. “Not only is it great fun for both the golfers and the community, but it raises a significant amount of money each year for projects that are important to the hospital and to our neighbors.”

For nearly four decades, the Golf Classic has represented Redlands Community Hospital as its highest profile, being the most enthusiastic fundraiser, drawing golfers and other support from throughout the Inland Empire. Last year the tournament raised an estimated $250,000 to support the ER project and this year organizers hope to raise even more through sponsorships, auctions and, of course, golfer participation. Some 80 volunteers from the Redlands Community Hospital Auxiliary, hospital staff and Redlands County Club will be working diligently on tournament day to ensure that the event is the rousing success that it always is.

Again this year, Hatfield Buick is the Hole-in-One sponsor for the tournament. They are joined by over 100 individuals and businesses including the Redlands Community Hospital Medical Staff, Susan and Paul Shimoff, West Coast University, Hamilton Construction, West Coast Environmental, SEI, the University of Redlands, the Paul Ware Family Foundation, Infinity Drywall Contracting, Pass Physical Therapy, South Coast Facility Services and Premier Medical Transportation & Equipment.

Afterward, golfers and other supporters will meet in the clubhouse to enjoy a special post-tournament awards dinner. Featured will be live and silent auctions that will give bidders an opportunity to vie for prizes, including California Angels’ tickets for prime seats behind home plate, a Disney-themed watch from Queens Jewelers in Redlands, and greens fees for four players to golf at Redlands Country Club. Numerous golf-related items, including clothing and equipment, will be raffled off to lucky winners during the dinner.

“There couldn’t be a more important beneficiary from this tournament than our outstanding Emergency Department, which for more than a century has served as a lifeline for the community,” Jan Opdyke, Foundation President said. “We’re so fortunate to have an exceptional Emergency Department right in the heart of our community, and support for the tournament will mean that our friends and neighbors will be able received that same level of care they have come to expect long into the future.”

Over many years no one understood the importance of giving like Kenton W. Corwin, longtime president of the Foundation and the man whose memory The Ken Corwin Cup is dedicated to. Corwin’s efforts were essential to the tournament’s creation and his dedication and commitment continue to be reflected in the Golf Classic’s success many years later. His son Clay will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
