RCC to Host 2020 Summer Conservatory Broadway

Riverside City College will host a virtual 5-week Summer Conservatory for high school and college students. Participants gain extensive experience in all phases of musical theatre performance and earn two units of college credit. Participants train with professors, directors, choreographers, working professionals and college students. The combination of classroom knowledge and professional experience enhance this exciting educational opportunity to talented and deserving young artists.

RCC Theatre Professor Jodi Julian created the Summer Conservatory program in 2000 to keep teenagers busy during the summer. No doubt, she has succeeded. Each year the program enrollment grows, this year her goal is to reach 100 students. The Conservatory has also become a powerful recruiting tool that demonstrates RCC’s theatre program rivals those at four-year universities.

The Conservatory is open to students from 9th through 12th grades, from all backgrounds, not just those interested in performing. No audition is necessary, however, students will be required to sing and submit vocal selections throughout the course.

Students will learn the business of “show,” including the business of theatre, website development, performance techniques, audition techniques, and the art of self-tapes.

The Summer Conservatory course begins June 22 and ends July 30. Class hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 1pm and will be conducted virtually (students will learn from home).

Broadway stars slated to attend include:

• June 24 - Lorie Eve Marinacci (Bdwy: School of Rock, Hairspray)

• July 1 - Milo Alosi (Bdwy: Aladdin, Beautiful)

• July 8 - Jeff Kuhr (Bdwy: Kinky Boots, Clueless)

• July 15 - Garrett Taylor (Bdwy: Wicked, White Christmas)

• July 22 - Lauren Chapman (Bdwy: Frozen, Kinky Boots)

• July 29 - Morgan Reynolds (Digital Media creator)

Enrollment is open now through June 22, 2020. High school and non-RCC students can apply via www.rcc.edu, RCC students enroll in THE 4 through WebAdvisor.
