San Bernardino County Supervisor James Ramos has declared his candidacy in February for the California 40th State Assembly district which is one of 80 California State Assembly districts.  The district is currently represented by Republican Marc Steinorth of Rancho Cucamonga.  The 40th State District encompasses different parts of the Inland Empire.  The plurality-Latino district forms a semicircular arc stretching from Rancho Cucamonga to Redlands, which surrounds the heavily Latino 4th district on the west, north, and east.  The demographics for the district (2010) is approximately 35.6% White, 11.0% Black, 42.5% Latino, 9.0% Asian, .65% Native American, .37% Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, .30 Other.  The number of register voters at that time were approximately 229,600 and the registration background was 40.31 % Democratic, 33.75% Republican and 21.04% with no party preference.  Marc Steinorth won the California State Assembly General election in 2014 by a vote of 39,303 (55.7%) to out distance Democrat Kathleen Henry who received 31,309 votes (44.3%) for the 40th State Assembly seat.  Marc repeated his winning ways in the General election in 2016, where he secured his incumbent seat in the Assembly by receiving 76,537 votes (50.6%) over Abigail Medina with 74,589 votes (49.4%).

Supervisor James Ramos, a Democrat, has stated, “As a tribal leader, community leader, business owner, and a County Supervisor for the 3rd District of San Bernardino County, I have worked to make the County a better place to live and work, targeting corruption, heightened security within the different communities, bringing transparency to the County Board of Supervisors, overseeing the budget and providing a reserve for future ventures.  My focus in the future will still be with economic development growth in the Inland Empire, getting a handle on the homeless population and what services we can provide for those in need, improving the education component throughout the County and District.  Finally, provide a safe community for all families to work and play in on a daily basis.”    Ramos has formed his campaign committee and is looking forward to running for the 40th State Assembly District seat.
