The 2017-18 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) online test results, released today, show Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) has continued to grow in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Overall, scores increased 1.2 percent in both subject areas.

The online tests are “comprehensive, end-of-year assessments of grade-level learning that measure progress toward college and career readiness,” according to the California Department of Education.

As a district, 31.43 percent of students either met or exceeded the standard in ELA, up from 30.2 percent last year. In mathematics, 21.83 percent of students met or exceeded the standard in mathematics, up from 20.6 percent last year.

“The increases we are consistently seeing in our CAASPP scores is a testament to the strong support our educators and families are providing each student,” Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora said, “There is always more work to do, however our planning and hard work is producing results for our students.”

Since the introduction of the CAASPP system in 2015, the district's overall math scores have increased almost 5 percent. In that same period, ELA scores increased about 2.5 percent.

“Moreno Valley Unified School District has had continual progress over the past few years, notably a 5 percent increase in math scores since 2015,” said Board President Susan Smith,

“All of us on the Board of Education are extremely proud of our students, educators and administrators for our continuing academic growth.”

Other highlights from the Moreno Valley Unified School District CAASPP results:

• Five grades experienced growth in mathematics district-wide (Grades 3,4,5,6,7).

• Two schools had growth of more than 10 percent in mathematics (Bear Valley and TownGate Elementary Schools).

• Third grade scores had growth of 7.2 percent in ELA and 3.6 percent in mathematics.

• Fourteen schools saw more than 5 percent growth in English Language Arts, with 11 schools growing 5 percent or more in mathematics.
