Inland Master Chorale performs one of the most well-known classical works of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s famous and mysterious “Requiem” on May 18-19.

Additionally, Los Osos High School’s Serenata Treble Choir will join the Chorale on John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children.” Both works will be accompanied by a 34-piece orchestra.

Mozart’s famous final composition, “Requiem” has been subject to speculation, mystery, rewriting, and outright fiction. Undisputed in that it was commissioned through a mysterious messenger and remained unfinished at Mozart’s death in 1791. Franz Xaver Süssmayr completed the 8-section mass in 1792.

Featured soloists on “Requiem” are Chorale members Debbie Biddick, soprano; Marian Dorst, alto; Zachary Krug, tenor; and Michael Hicks, bass.

Mass of the Children

Englishman John Rutter is among the most well-known living composers of choral music. His “Mass of the Children” is a 5-movement composition using Latin text from the missa brevis (short mass) and poetry by Thomas Ken and Williams Blake. The 31 voices of LOHS’s Serenata Treble Choir, under the direction of Bethany Encina, will perform the children’s sections. Soloists are Chorale members Bethany Encina, soprano and George Becker, bass.

The Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Joseph Modica, Interim CAS Associate Dean and Director, School of Music at the University of Redlands. Assistant Director Anna DeLeon is also Director of Choirs at Grand Terrace High School. The Chorale’s accompanist is Sophie Tait.

Concerts begin at 8 pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door and $10 for students and children. Children under five are not admitted. Tickets are available in advance from Chorale members, at www.inlandmasterchorale.org, or by phone, 909-798-4462.
