At its annual reorganization meeting, Tuesday, Dec. 17, the Moreno Valley Unified School District School Board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Marsha Locke as the president of the school board, Darrell Peeden as vice president, and Susan Smith as Board clerk.

The officer positions were effective immediately and they will serve in their new roles for the next 12 months.

“I am honored to have been selected as the president of the school board,” said Dr. Marsha Locke. “This is the first time I am president of a school board. I thank Mr. Jesús Holguín for serving as our president for the past year. I know that there are big shoes to fill. I look forward to serving our students, families and community.”

Dr. Locke is a retired educator having served leadership roles in Riverside County. She has lived in Moreno Valley for over 26 years and is committed to the community and the parents, students, and employees of the Moreno Valley Unified School District.

“Dr. Marsha Locke is a strong leader on our school board,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora. “I am confident she will lead our district and make a positive difference in the lives of our students.”

As a board trustee, Dr. Locke understands and supports the role that parents and community members have in building a quality school system that meets the educational needs of all students. She is committed to making decisions based on what is best for students while ensuring a positive and valued work environment for all employees.

After the new officers were elected, outgoing president Jesús M. Holguín and outgoing vice president Cleveland Johnson were presented with commemorative gavels as a thank you for their service.
