Mayor's Weekly Message 85

By Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley
August 29, 2019 at 04:22pm. Views: 15

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

The recent State of the City event was very successful, and I thank everyone who worked so hard to make it by far the best such event in the Inland Empire. It was a sell-out, so if you couldn’t attend, it’s posted on the city’s YouTube and is running on MVTV-3 for you to watch at your leisure.

As your Mayor, and as a lifelong resident of our city, I am so proud to call Moreno Valley home. And I was proud to be able to report at State of the City that both our city government and the MoVal community are strong today and the future looks bright.

The statistic that received the greatest response, and for good reason, was that in just the past six years, we’ve added approximately 20,000 new local jobs, and our community’s employment rate now stands at a remarkable 95 percent!

Think about that for a moment – about what that means in real people’s lives. It’s 20,000 opportunities for MoVal residents to avoid hours of time and gallons of gas spent commuting to work in stop-and-go freeway traffic. Instead, they can spend the time and money they save by working close to home being with their families. They can attend more of their kids’ soccer games and make it to parent/teacher conferences and school open houses. In short, they can enjoy the families and community they’ve built here in Moreno Valley.

That’s what I think about every time we help create a good, new, local job. And the work of bolstering our local economy with more local jobs continues as our Economic Development Department reaches out to even more national, international and Fortune 500 companies interested in investing in a dynamic, growing city with a reliable workforce located in the humming economic engine of the Inland Empire.
