Mayor's Weekly Message 70

By Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley
May 17, 2019 at 11:43am. Views: 15

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

As your Mayor, and as an educator, one of my main priorities is creating economic opportunities for the young people of our community.  I am a firm believer in the saying that the best social program in the world is a good job.  With that in mind, I encourage you to take advantage of a great opportunity we have created to help young job seekers gain the skills needed to begin climbing the economic ladder of success.  Join us for the Moreno Valley Youth Conference Job & Education Expo, Saturday, May 18, at Moreno Valley City Hall.

Young people just getting started in the job market will learn how to fill out job applications, create a winning resume to help them stand out from other applicants, and take part in mock interviews that will help prepare them for real-world situations.

Attendees will also benefit from the wisdom and advice of these employment experts:

• Kim S. Scott, local author,  entrepreneur, and founder of My Girls, a program dedicated to the positive development of girls and young women;

• Miguel Ramirez, City of Moreno Valley Employment Resource Center Manager and an expert of job application and interviewing skills; and

• Claudia Diaz Carrasco, 4-H Youth Development Advisor at the University of California Cooperative Extension, who offers important insight into critical “soft skills” such as workplace etiquette.

Don’t miss this FREE event and the opportunity to prepare for a future in tomorrow’s workforce!

For more information contact Kathryn Vigil at kathrynv@moval.org or call 951-413-3006.  I look forward to seeing our young residents at this exciting event!
