Mayor's Weekly Message

Dear Moreno Valley Residents:

This year’s Snow Day and Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony brought hundreds of Moreno Valley residents together to celebrate the holiday season. Many families attended Snow Day, where children were able to play in the snow, jump in bounce houses, play games and have their faces painted with holiday designs.

Throughout the Snow Day event, attendees were treated to exciting performances by various singers, dancers, and artists from Moreno Valley organizations.

After our Snow Day activities concluded, community members gathered together to view our spectacular display of lights and decorations at the Second Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, hosted by yours truly. Anyone who wished to indulge was provided hot chocolate and cookies during the event. And a very special guest joined us from the North Pole and brought his workshop to Moreno Valley for children to play games, create holiday crafts, win prizes, and have their picture taken with Santa Claus. Jolly Old Saint Nick also helped the Moreno Valley City Council light the holiday tree.

This celebratory event was made even brighter by the glow of Moreno Valley’s "M" on Box Springs Mountain. The "M" is a well-known landmark in Moreno Valley. As a child returning home from trips with my parents, I always knew I was home when I saw the “M.” It was remarkable to see our landmark lit up with an array of holiday colors. I am proud to announce that we have made the “M” lighting a permanent feature in Moreno Valley. The "M" lighting will be available for events and celebrations relating to the City of Moreno Valley. City staff has incorporated a new multi-colored LED technology for the first time and can illuminate the "M" in numerous color configurations. For more information about the lighting of the "M," please visit www.moval.org/mschedule.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in making our annual Snow Day and Tree Lighting Ceremony a fun and festive event for everyone.

With the large attendance at this year’s holiday events, it is evident that Moreno Valley is a growing City. Part of our City's expansion includes offering additional library services as outlined in our strategic plan Momentum MoVal. While developing the City's first strategic plan, we learned that opening a second library branch was a top priority for our residents. I am proud to announce that we accomplished this project and in only 16 months. We will now have a new Library at the Moreno Valley Mall!

It is my pleasure to invite everyone to the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of Moreno Valley's new Library on December 21st at 10:00 a.m. This great accomplishment for the City will help provide residents with the services, resources, and information they need to create and maintain the quality of life they desire.

The Mall branch of the Moreno Valley Public Library will be open Monday through Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The new branch is located in the Mall on the second floor, across from Sears and next to HomeTown Buffet.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony, I will welcome everyone in attendance inside to experience everything the new branch has to offer. Fun activities will take place throughout the day, including:

• Free raffles

• Face painting

• A Balloon Artist

• Anime drawing classes

• A Magician

• Book readings by local authors
