March Field Air Museum Announces Viewing Opportunity for Base Centennial Air Show

The March Field Air & Space Expo at March Air Reserve Base (ARB) has been announced for the weekend of April 7-8, 2018. The year’s show is significant as it marks the 100th anniversary of historic March Field, and is anticipated to draw record crowds. Guests who have previously attended air shows at March ARB know that parking and traffic will be severely congested at the base itself. March Field Air Museum is proud to announce it will, once again, help alleviate the congestion by offering a convenient alternative: for a single per-vehicle entry fee, the Museum will provide guests an opportunity to view the aerial demonstrations and fly-bys in a less-congested location with efficient on-site parking.

Located adjacent to the west side of the runway at March ARB without direct base access, the Museum offers an excellent and alternative view of the aerial demonstrations from its location just outside and immediately adjacent to the Base. With customized, live narration of the aerial demonstrations provided both days, more than 80 aircraft on static display, plus extensive indoor exhibits, the Museum offers a great opportunity to see the air show from a great vantage point in a unique environment.

The Museum will have food trucks and other vendors on hand to offer food and beverages for purchase. Guests may also bring their own previously prepared food and drink. A beer and wine garden will offer adult beverages on-site (outside alcohol is strictly prohibited). For just $30 per automobile (oversize vehicle rates higher), parking and entry to the Museum will be provided. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and shade to watch the show.

Of special interest this year is an all-new Museum exhibit titled “March of Flight: A Century of Service” which showcases 100 years of growth, changing facilities, personnel and missions at March Field through photographs and artifacts. This is a great opportunity to learn more about March Field’s pioneering role in helping to shape today’s Air Force. Guests are also encouraged to see the Museum’s latest acquisition, a full-size replica of the “Wright 1903 Flyer” which launched the modern era of powered flight.

Parking of vehicles at the Museum will begin both days at 8 a.m. The Air Show itself is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m., and end at 4 p.m. The Museum’s website provides additional details regarding the Museum’s special hours on April 7-8, allowable/prohibited items, parking/entry fees for oversize vehicles, and more: www.MarchField.org/calendar. “The March Air & Space Expo offers Inland Empire residents a not-to-be-missed opportunity to see the U.S. Air Force and military aircraft in action, past and present,” said March Field Air Museum Executive Director Paul Hammond. “March Field—today’s March Air Reserve Base—is the West Coast’s oldest continuously operated military airfield, and a birthplace of the modern Air Force that our nation relies upon today. We’re proud to commemorate March Field’s 100th anniversary with special exhibits and programs all year long, and look forward to welcoming area residents and visitors to the March Field Air Museum.”

March Field Air Museum is a top-rated TripAdvisor attraction located alongside Interstate Highway 215 at Van Buren Boulevard, just south of downtown Riverside and immediately adjacent to March Air Reserve Base. Open year-round Tuesday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Museum offers self-guided and guided tours, special aircraft viewing opportunities, educational programming, and special events throughout the year.
