Lucille “Lucy” Conley is a California native who grew up in San Bernardino, and who has also gained the privilege of becoming the newest member in a exclusive club, the Centenarian Club.

Born on November 23, 1919, Lucy celebrated her 100th birthday with her family and friends at her residence in Asistencia Villa Rehabilitation & Care Center in Redlands. When sitting down with Lucy she speaks about how great of a life she’s lived and how she has always been a happy person, traveling around the entire globe, and even boasts attending every United States State of the Union Address, only missing three.

Having mothered two boys and married twice, Lucy reminisces on her life these past 100 years in a decorated hall surrounded by loved ones and caretakers alike and greeted with a beautifully decorated cake designed with red and white frosting, red being her favorite color.

Lucy shared many stories and expressed her naturally mischievous and sharp character through her humorous tongue in cheek commentary and anecdotes of her childhood when she once tied a cows tail to a post for pestering her. Staff also played her favorite song upon request, Spanish Eyes by Engelbert Humperdinck. The song echoed through the hall as Lucy shared how she used to go out dancing with her first husband and friends all night and getting tacos after, saying how she’d be dancing right now if she wasn’t confined to her wheelchair. Throughout the party Lucy was thankful and excited to be able to share stories of her life with City News Group. A lover of all people and all things good she contested that the key to her long life has been from the graces of salt saying, “I eat salt, and I'm still here.”

Conley explains how she was quite the cook during her time and even both her nieces who were present agreed with her statement. The party was filled with laughter and Lucy’s witty commentary throughout, but it seemed to only get better as this Centenarian was able to knock an item off her wish list, she received a kiss form a man with a mustache, a small token for a 100 years of life but a great deal with Lucy who exclaimed “Whoop-pee, that's something I’ve wanted to do my whole life.”

Happy Birthday Lucille!!
