LED Lights Being Installed at Intersections

The City of Grand Terrace has been  looking to change out the intersection lights and arterial street lights in the city to LED for the last few months, and with the support of Southern California is going to complete that mission in the future.  The intersection safety lights were recently converted from High Pressure Sodium (HSP) lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights.  Redevelopment Bond Proceeds were responsible for the change out of lights.

The City Council voted to use approximately $26,000 of its redevelopment bonds, which were issued in 2011 to pay for the replacement project.  The lights increase the visibility at intersections, while saving energy.  The council is hoping to save over 50% in energy consumption charges for each of the signalized intersections in the City.  The signalized intersections and the safety lights are an asset of the City of Grand Terrace, while the other street lights throughout the city, that are found in neighborhoods and on major arterial streets are owned by Southern California Edison.  This is one of many Public Work Projects upcoming in the City.
