Coming off a record academic semester, 34 California Baptist University student-athletes earned Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honors when the league released its distinguished list of fall 2019 recipients.
The Lancers also set a new department record for a semester grade-point average with a 3.412 this fall. This year's 34 honorees in the WAC are eight more than the 26 Lancers who received the accolade in the fall of 2018.
In order to qualify for the honor, each student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year at the school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
CBU was led by the men's and women's soccer teams, who each placed nine players on the list. Men's and women's cross country followed with a total of nine and volleyball added seven more.
Earning the distinction for men's soccer was Oliver Bryneus, Brian Gonzalez, Chris Heckenberg, Linus Mansson, Finn McDaniel, Uriel Mosqueda, Evan Panganiban, Jerry Ramirez and Sebastian Wiesbock. Heckenberg also received CoSIDA All-District Academic Honors for the same season.
The women's soccer honorees were Brodi Blomdahl, Kacie Dennis, Kiara Gaines, Erin Gallagher, Miranda Hald, Michaela Miller, Camille Ramirez, Rebecca Romero and Elisa Soderholm.
Cross country had eight women named: Elin Brink, Karolina Iznerowicz, Luz Karen Olivera, Andrea Kolbeinsdottir, Fruzsi Ladanyi, Anna Mate, Emilie Renaud, Anett Somogyi and one male runner, Zlatko Kozuhar.
Volleyball's Nicole Abreu, Elizabeth Gilley, Yagoda Jedrzejczak, Sydney Marks, Hana Okuhara, Ellie Voss and Natalie Zimmerer received recognition, as well. Like Heckenberg, Marks was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.
