On August 22, 2019, the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Robbery & Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) led a multi-jurisdictional and simultaneous search warrant service at 5:00 AM, throughout Southern California.  Three SWAT teams (Including Los Angeles County Sheriff, Upland Police, and Riverside County Sheriff) and multiple task force teams served eleven warrants at locations from LA County and as far east as Anza Thursday morning.  This was a conclusion of a three-month investigation into an armed kidnapping and home invasion robbery which occurred on the 14000 block of Alba Way in Moreno Valley, on May 22, 2019.

During the original incident, multiple suspects conducted surveillance on the victims’ residence while another group of suspects in tactical gear, ballistic vests, and armed with one assault rifle and three handguns were lying in wait near the residence.  One victim returned home from her morning plans when she was confronted by the four armed suspects.

She was forced to unlock and open the front door of her residence where her husband and children were inside.  The victims were attacked, beaten, and their hands were bound behind their back.  Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s station responded but the suspects had fled the location.  The victims sustained minor injuries and were treated by medical professionals.

After a complex and lengthy investigation, aided significantly by the Moreno Valley City-Wide Camera System and other investigative tools, RBST identified numerous suspects and issued warrants for their arrest, each with $1,000,000 bail.

The evidence seized pursuant to yesterday’s search warrants linked the suspects to the crimes included ballistic vests, one assault rifle, five handguns, three pounds of methamphetamine, a sales amount of cocaine and heroin, one hundred pounds of processed marijuana, and one thousand marijuana plants.  Additionally, numerous items of personal property and identifying documents belonging to the victims were located.

The following gang-involved suspects were arrested for kidnapping to commit robbery, conspiracy, weapons, and drug charges:

  • Rolando Aguilar Hispanic male adult (40-years-old) resident of Compton.
  • Brandy Aleman Hispanic female adult (29-years-old) resident of Grand Terrace.
  • Thomas Barragan Hispanic male adult (47-years-old) resident of Rialto.
  • Kevin Curiel Hispanic male adult (30-years-old) resident of La Puente.
  • Jose Delgado Hispanic male adult (35-years-old) resident of West Covina.
  • Daniel Lopez Hispanic male adult (43-years-old) resides at multiple locations.
  • Jose Juan Marrero Colon Hispanic male adult (37-years-old) resident of Grand Terrace.
  • Diego Martinez Hispanic male adult (21-years-old) resident of La Puente.
  • Sean Serrano Hispanic male adult (30-years-old), resident of Upland.
  • Elvira Vargas Hispanic female adult (27-years-old) resident of West Covina.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact Deputy Rivera or Investigator Patterson with the Robbery and Burglary Suppression Team at the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station by calling (951) 486-6700.
