Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez has been named the 2018 recipient of the Moreno Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Influential Leadership Award in Public Service, recognizing the mayor’s commitment to job creation, continued fiscal prudence, and innovative ideas to improve the quality of life for its residents, business owners, and visitors.

"I'm honored and humbled to receive this honor from the Moreno Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce," Mayor Gutierrez said. "Our business community is a vital partner in ensuring our City continues to thrive."

Mayor Gutierrez has served on the Moreno Valley City Council since 2013. In 2016, he became the City's first directly elected mayor.

During his term, Mayor Gutierrez led the creation of the City’s award-winning Hire MoVal programs, which reward businesses with incentives in exchange for hiring Moreno Valley residents. Strong fiscal practices resulted in the City of Moreno Valley being named the third most financially strong City in the nation in 2017.

Mayor Gutierrez’ commitment to innovation led to the City of Moreno Valley being named a Champion City in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge. Moreno Valley was one of just 35 cities selected out of more than 300 entries to move to the final round of the nationwide competition. The Mayors Challenge tasked city leaders to uncover bold, inventive solutions to tackle some of the toughest problems faced by cities. The City of Moreno Valley’s idea to address the Earn vs. Learn dilemma of having to choose between earning a living and receiving an education that so many residents face is now a finalist in the competition. Winners will be announced in October, with one city winning $5 million and four cities winning $1 million each to turn their ideas into reality.

The Moreno Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MVHCC) is dedicated to promoting members of the Latino business community and the local business community as a whole and supporting strong leadership.
