History Day Students Advance to State

Four individual students and two groups of students have moved on to the California History Day competition after placing in the Riverside County contest.

The county and state levels are part of National History Day. Students select a historical topic that relates to the annual theme, and then conduct extensive research by using libraries, archives, museums, and oral history interviews. They analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about the significance of their topics in history, and create final projects to present their work.

The competition begins at each school, winners then advanced to the MVUSD district competition, and finally to the county level. The Riverside County winners advance to the state competition and state winners then advance to the national competition held in June each year.

“We congratulate our History Day participants, specifically the groups heading to represent MVUSD at the state level,” said Board President Jesus Holguin, “History Day is an important cross-curricular event that uses a variety of skills to present on a historical topic.”
