Women’s History Month with the Girl Scouts is an important time to celebrate and reflect on the amazing women who came before us, paving the  way, breaking barriers, setting records, making discoveries, working hard to make the world a better place.  By recognizing the drive and dedication of local women around us today, they become real life role models to our Girl Scouts.

Girl Scout Troop 76 celebrated big this year during Women’s History Month in March by hosting a  Women’s Kick off at City Hall on Tuesday, March 6th.  Our City Manager, Harold Duffey and Grand Terrace Mayor Darcy McNaboe coordinated a presentation featuring the top Women leaders affiliated with the City of Grand Terrace. Speakers were  Mayor Darcy McNaboe, Cynthia Fortune, Assistant City Manager & Finance Director; Sandra Molina, Planning & Development Director; Debra Thomas, City Clerk; Adreane Freeman, Management Analyst; Sylvia Beasley, Sheriff’s Service Specialist. The women spoke about their roles with the City of Grand Terrace and inspired our Girl Scouts to reach for the Stars, emphasizing that with determination they can do anything.

Mayor Darcy McNaboe is very supportive of our Girl Scouts and Women’s History Month,  “I appreciate being invited to  be  a part of the Grand Terrace Girl Scout Troop Women’s History Month events this year. What a wonderful experience for these young ladies to have the opportunity to hear from so many accomplished women in a variety of professions, this experience exposed them to wonderful examples of the options open to them. I am equally impressed by the example set  by the Girl Scout Troop leaders and the foundation of learning and experience they are creating with their commitment, teamwork and patience of development of these future leaders.’

Girl Scout Troops in the Grand Terrace area were invited by Troop 76 to participate at City Hall. Girl Scouts representing Troops 458, 1195, 275, 1263, 1520, 1252 ,960 and 76  were present. The Girl Scouts and City Speakers ended the evening by crossing arms and linking hands to for a giant circle for the traditional Girl Scout song, “Make New Friends”.  Each scout received a Women’s History Fun patch.

Our Women’s History Celebration did not end here. Troop 76 met again on Monday, March 26th for a finale of Women’s History at La Pasta Italia for a luncheon with Mayor Darcy McNaboe; Eloise Reyes,State Assemblywoman 47th District;  Jackie Mitchell, Barnett Real Estate & former City Council Member and Elizabeth Locke-Thomas, Chief of Mission Delivery Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council.  These Amazing women presented inspiring stories of their lives,  the drive and dedication that lead them where they are today, reminding us that they  were once girls like our Girl Scouts before they became leaders in our community. The message was  that each girl has the power with in to create amazing history of their own.

Elizabeth Locke-Thomas who oversees  the delivery of the Girl Scout mission to the vast membership in the 27,000 square miles  of the San Gorgonio Council says, “It is incredibly important to celebrate Women’s History Month so that we can  celebrate how far we have come, yet recognize how far we still have to go.”

Thank you from Troop 76 to all our Amazing Women Guest Speakers for making this Women’s History Month a very special celebration. Thank you to La Pasta Italia for hosting our Luncheon.  Although Women’s History Month comes once  a year in March, we can always take the time to celebrate and honor  women every day, in our own homes. Take the time to thank that special women, friend, wife, mom, sister, teacher etc…
