Gil Dellinger, a Master of Plein-Air

It is with pleasure that the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association invites the public to a lecture and demonstration by California artist Gil Dellinger at the monthly meeting in the Loma Linda Senior Center on Sunday, February 4, from 2 to 4 pm. A multi-talented artist perhaps best known for his seascapes, Gil is equally adept in three mediums: acrylic for studio work, oils or pastels when working on location.

Dellinger connects his love of art with the sweet shock of his first experience of a college sculpture class; that was the moment, he says, when “his life caught fire”, igniting a lifelong pursuit of art as expressed in drawing and painting.

In his role as an active part of the arts community, Gil has actively supported the plein-air movement, considering as “career highlights” his participation in 3 plein-air exhibitions which took place in widely-separated venues: Colorado, France, and the Grand Canyon section of the Colorado River.

In 2003, in response to the 9/11 attack, Gil Dellinger worked with fellow artist John Cosby to curate a traveling exhibition, “From Sea to Shining Sea”.  Forty-seven artists participated in the exhibition, which toured the United States for three years, with temporary exhibits at 12 different museums.  Now retired from 30 years of full-time employment as a university professor of art, he continues part-time college teaching and occasionally teaches painting workshops.

Gill Dellinger has never deviated from his fascination with the drama and beauty all around us.  He states that “one thing has remained consistent: ‘I’m just so grateful for my gift.  I think of my life as a gift, and I think the gift that I’ve been given should reflect the excellence of the Giver.’”

The public is welcome; a $5.00 donation is requested from non-LLCAA members.  There is no charge for Loma Linda University students.

LLCAA* monthly meetings take place in the Loma Linda Senior Center, located at the southeast corner of the Loma Linda Civic Center complex, 25541 Barton Road, in the city of Loma Linda.
