Yesterday the California State Department of Parks and Recreation announced the approval of a grant of $212,552 for the City of Grand Terrace to build the Blue Mountain Trailhead which includes 5,000 linear feet of trail, a trailhead restroom, parking and interpretive signage. The grant funds will be administered by the California State Parks Office of Grants and Local Services (OGALS) through the State Habitat Conservation Fund program.

The City of Grand Terrace was recently notified that it has been awarded a $212,000 grant from the State of California Habitat Conservation Fund for construction of the Blue Mountain Nature Trail Head.

The Habitat Conservation Fund awards approximately $2,000,000 annually to California Jurisdictions. The City must complete the grant within a 5-year period. The Grant requires a 50% match. The City will use Development Impact Fees (Park Fees) as matching funds. The City owns property on the Corner of Observation and Van Buren.

“The City of Grand Terrace has exemplified a long-term commitment for this project which will build a better quality of life for their residents and the whole Inland Empire,” said Assemblymember Reyes. “Building projects that increase quality of life and an active lifestyle is progress our region needs. Receiving these funds is an example of what we can achieve as a district and regionally when we work together.”

The Blue Mountain Access Trail and Trailhead project, when completed, will provide legal and safe access to the Blue Mountain Trail in the City of Grand Terrace. When opened, this area will serve as a nature center with future opportunity to create an educational curriculum to inform school children throughout the region of the existing ecosystem in the area. Visitors will have the opportunity to use the trail year-round and enjoy a good workout and beautiful views of the Inland Empire and local mountains.
