From Yum Yum to Starbucks

The infamous Yum Yum Restaurant located at 2726 South Iowa Ave. just off the 215 Freeway that has been around Colton, CA for over 50 years was recently bulldozed down. This construction is in preparation for the new Starbucks location that will be taking its place.  This new Starbucks will come with a drive-through and will be over 2,000 square feet.  The city of Colton approved the project in October with several changes to be made such as, a larger wall logo, the parking stalls could encroach 13 feet into the required setback of 20 feet, and a reduction of landscape coverage to 12 percent.

The Yum Yum Restaurant has no connections with the Yum Yum Donuts chain. It was well known by residents for its amazing breakfast specials, chicken fried steaks, and burgers. It has been referred to as a place with good vibes and great service, with food that beat out the rest of the local diners. Unfortunately, this location of the Yum Yum Restaurant closed down a couple of years ago. However, even though the owners are different, there is a second Yum Yum Restaurant open in San Bernardino.  Right now the only thing that remains at the old Colton eatery is the tall sign at the entrance with all of the words blocked out.

Currently, California holds the title for the most Starbucks locations in a single state with more than 2,800 locations open. There are over 13,000 locations for Starbucks currently open in the U.S. The construction has already begun for this new Starbucks with the old diner torn down. Fencing has already been placed around the facility with a large “Starbucks Coming Soon” banner.
