Find the Library at Your Place

In recognition of National Library Week, San Bernardino Public Library invites all community members to find the library at their place by visiting our website, www.sbpl.org, to access virtual services and resources. While the library’s physical spaces may be temporarily closed due to COVID-19, the public can discover eBooks, Audiobooks, online databases, and much more—all from home.

In times of crisis, libraries respond to their community’s needs in innovative and inspiring ways. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, libraries of all types are continuing to make a difference in people’s lives by providing electronic learning resources, including virtual homework help, online crafting and DIY sessions as well as information about keeping your family well and safe.

At San Bernardino Public Library there are a wide array of virtual services such as Overdrive; Reference USA; Brainfuse; New York Times; Britannica School and Escolar; Footsteps2Brilliance;R & B Digital Magazines; and America’s News, featuring full-text of newspaper articles including the San Bernardino Sun since 2001. Our Virtual Reference Desk includes employment resources, government and legal resources; health and medicine, online book sites, public domain eBooks, and a kid’s section with links for homework help, animals, history, fun & games, etc.

April 19-25, 2020 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. This National Library Week, the public can show their appreciation and support for libraries by visiting their library’s website, following them on social media and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek.

The original theme for National Library Week, “Find your place at the library,” was chosen months ago before the emergence of a global pandemic would force libraries to close their buildings. In response to our rapidly-changing times, the theme was revised to “Find the library at your place” to bring attention to how libraries are open for business online, offering the electronic services and digital content their communities need now more than ever. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries of all types across the country each April.

Fees will be not charged for materials due starting March 17 until the libraries re-open. Sign up for a library card online to use Overdrive eBooks and eAudiobooks and other resources at: http://catalog.sbpl.org:8086/onlineBorrowerRegistration.html

Please allow about a day for card to activate

For more information, visit the library’s website at www.sbpl.org. Patrons are encouraged to follow the library on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/sbcitylib and Twitter at https://twitter.com/sbcitylibrary. They can also follow the Friends of SBPL at https://www.facebook.com/SBPLfriends/ .

A library staff member is available Monday – Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to answer questions about materials due, library cards, electronic resources, etc. at 909-381-8201 during the closure.
