Carpeting Project to Change Library Hours

Feldheym Central Library in San Bernardino will be closed to the public due to re-carpeting. The closure will begin Monday, Jan. 5, and extend for approximately two weeks, library officials have said. Books and other materials checked out may still be turned to the book drop at the Feldheym library when it is closed, or residents may take these materials to any of the San Bernardino Public branch libraries. The original carpeting at Feldheym Library, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2015, is still intact. The majority of funding for the new carpeting project comes from an insurance settlement after a 2013 flood, and community development block grant (CBDG) funding, according to library officials. Almost all of the carpet in the 64,000-square-foot facility will be replaced. “This project will be a major upgrade for Feldheym,” said Ed Erjavek, library director. “We’d like to thank the mayor and common council, City Manager Allen Parker, Public Works Director Tony Frossard, Brandon Mims of the city manager’s office, Rick Moreno of city facilities, the SBPL Board of Trustees and everyone else who has supported and contributed to this much-needed project.” To accommodate the public during this closure, three San Bernardino Public Library branches will offer expanded public service hours, beyond their usual 20 weekly hours, during that period, library officials said. "The San Bernardino Public Library Board of Trustees knows how much the residents of San Bernardino value their libraries and asked staff to continue to provide the best public service we can during this project,” said Erjavek. Expanded library branch service days and hours during the Feldheym closure are as follows, beginning Jan. 5: *Ingram, 1505 W. Highland Ave.: Closed Sundays and Mondays. Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. *Rowe, 108 E. Marshall Blvd.: Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursdays from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed Friday and Sunday. * Villaseñor, 525 N. Mt. Vernon Ave.: Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Friday and Sunday. Additionally, all city libraries will be closed Saturday, Jan. 17 and Monday, Jan. 19 for the Martin Luther King holiday. Regular hours at all libraries are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
