Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) patients got some new wheels to get them around the hospital when Mercedes-Benz USA, along with Walter’s Automotive Group, delivered three new pedal cars to the hematology/oncology unit, Wednesday, September 20.

LLUCH patient Brooklyn Hills, 10, of Moreno Valley was on hand to accept the cars on behalf of all the patients at the hospital.

This was the second car delivery by Walter’s, the first one was on August 23, courtesy of Walter’s Children’s Charity Classic.

Steve and Cathy Kienle of Walter’s Automotive Group, along with Alexandra Conway and Tracey Matura from Mercedes-Benz USA, delivered the cars and were anxious to learn more about the hospital.

“We want to do whatever we can to bring a little fun into the lives of the kids receiving life-saving care at the hospital,” said Cathy Kienle. “We hope these pedal cars will do just that.”

According to Dorothy Brooks, child life specialist, pedal cars and other wheeled toys are available to patients on the units to get out of their rooms and move about the floor. “Patients get excited when they can pedal down the hallway in a mini Mercedes rather than walking.”
