Moreno Valley Online Academy Sees New Growth at New Facility

Moreno Valley Online Academy (MVOA) has become an increasingly popular alternative for middle and high school students who prefer to work at their own pace to either get ahead faster, catch up on credits, or simply prefer an online element to their learning. But MVOA is not just for secondary students; this year, the program has enrolled more elementary students than ever before. MVOA Principal Dr. Tammy Guzzetta said word is getting around to parents that Moreno Valley Unified is committed to providing alternative learning options in attractive facilities. “It’s the recognition that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to learning. Our commitment as a district is to be responsive and teach the way students learn best, instead of expecting them to just learn in whatever way we like to teach. I also think our new facility has something to do with it,” she explained about MVOA’s new home at the brand new Bridges Learning Center on Cactus and Indian. “The surroundings here are much more welcoming to elementary-age students.” Moreno Valley Online Academy currently enrolls 128 students, eight of whom are elementary students, its most ever. Guzzetta said while the number is still small, it shows a growing momentum. “Just a year ago, we had half that number of elementary students,” she recalled. “But now that the word is out that MVOA is a great alternative even for younger students, we expect our elementary enrollment to continue to grow.”
