REDLANDS>> Pulverization and other paving activities have begun on Colton Avenue between Tri City Center and New York Street, part of the PARIS resurfacing project. Paving on Colton Avenue is anticipated to begin Thursday, March 16, according to a news release. Following completion of work on Colton Avenue, pulverization is expected to begin on Alabama Street between Redlands Boulevard and Barton Road beginning Monday, March 20. Officials said businesses will remain accessible and no road closures are anticipated as part of the work. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The contractor, Matich Corp., of San Bernardino, was awarded a contract in the amount of $8,739,532 on Sept. 20, 2016, for the PARIS 2015 Resurfacing Project, and the news release states no General Fund dollars are used to fund the project, designed and managed by the city’s Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department. The road work is part of the city’s comprehensive street resurfacing program, the Pavement Management Program (PMP), adopted by the city council in March 2012, and the Pavement Accelerated Repair Implementation Strategy (PARIS), approved by the city council in September 2012. The PMP and PARIS together form a comprehensive infrastructure approach to address the city’s surface street rehabilitation, repair and maintenance needs. When fully implemented, the program will result in rehabilitation and repair of two-thirds of the city’s street infrastructure over a five-year period. The current 6-month phase of the project will include resurfacing of approximately 90 lane miles of streets throughout the city. Upon completion, the city will have completed nearly 200 miles of lane resurfacing, or approximately, 48 percent of the total PARIS project.
