SAN BERNARDINO>> Tony Myrell has been re-elected Chairman of the San Bernardino County Workforce Development Board (WDB), and will once again lead the county’s nationally-recognized efforts to develop a well-trained labor force that meets the needs of businesses. Myrell, President and owner of Premier Medical Transportation in Colton, has served on the WDB for more than six years. He holds one of just 25 spots on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Workforce Boards which selects chairs from the top-performing regions around the country to work closely with legislators to influence national policy and support partnerships in education, business, economic development and labor. “Tony Myrell is one of the most recognizable national figures in workforce development, and we’re fortunate to again have him leading our board,” said Robert Lovingood, Chairman of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. “Continuing the leadership of our workforce efforts is critically important, especially now with the economic opportunities San Bernardino County and the Inland Empire have in front of us. All roads lead here, and we have the pieces in place to take full advantage of that – an excellent quality of life, affordability, a great transportation network, and a workforce system that supports our business-growth and economic development efforts.” San Bernardino County is home to more than 82,000 businesses and has an existing labor force of more than 900,000. A new study by Chmura Economics & Analytics forecasts employment growth across all 21 major business sectors in the Inland Empire over the next 10 years. The report cites business and workforce partnerships, career pathway and training initiatives, and young population mix as factors in building a strong pipeline of workers and trainable job seekers. “The opportunity we have is unlike any in California, and we’re poised – as a county and as a region – to become a business, economic and job-creation hub for the state,” Myrell said. Phil Cothran has also been re-elected as Vice Chairman. He has served for over 23 years on the WDB, serving as chair three times, and has chaired numerous committees. He owns the Phil Cothran Agency, a State Farm Insurance brokerage in Fontana. William Sterling has also been re-elected Second Vice Chairman. He has served for six years on the WDB, serving as Second Vice-Chair and on various committees. He is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Synergy Systems Inc., providing technical and business consulting services throughout the United States. The San Bernardino County WDB has consistently ranked among California’s highest-performing workforce boards over the years, most recently gaining recognition for its achievements in January 2017. The WDB operates three America’s Job Centers of California and works with partner organizations to provide a multitude of free business solutions and career-development services.
