Val Verde High School Receives Top Three Pick

MORENO VALLEY >> The Val Verde Unified School District is proud to announce that Val Verde High School has been selected as a finalist for the 2016 Panasonic Kid Witness News, New The video "Knockdown" produced by the Video Production class at Val Verde Continuation High School was one of three videos selected by Panasonic for the 2016 New Vision Awards. Teacher Robert Del Campo and students will attend the “Winners Weekend” in New York which will take place May 5 through May 8 where the winning school will be announced at the Panasonic Headquarters. “Knockdown” is a story about a female boxer named Maggie Torres. Maggie is competing in the Olympic trials hoping to fulfill her lifelong dream of fighting in the Olympics. The story takes place in the last round of the fight. Her opponent, the undefeated Tessa Scott, has won the previous rounds. Not only is Maggie fighting for her dreams, she is also battling the opposition of her father, a former boxing champion who believes the sport is only for males. You can see the video “Knockdown” on YouTube by following this link: https://youtu.be/7ldAw05masw Panasonic Kid Witness News is a unique, hands-on video education program for grades 4-12, designed to encourage students to develop valuable cognitive, communication and organization skills through video production. Panasonic provides students with the latest video equipment and opportunity to share how they view the world around them. Under faculty supervision, students create, produce, direct, act in and edit videos that explore subjects they experience in school and their daily lives. This will mark the twelfth time that the Val Verde High School Video Production team has been invited to New York by Panasonic.
