District Honored for Energy Savings

San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) is celebrating a 44 percent reduction in Districtwide energy consumption, which earned it a prestigious Energy Excellence Award from Cenergistic.

The Energy Excellence Award is given to Cenergistic clients who have reached noteworthy financial savings from an energy program. Under this partnership, 31 percent of expected costs were avoided, 71 District buildings achieved ENERGY STAR® certification and the SBCUSD program created a significant environmental impact. The energy consumption avoided equates to each of the 14.5 million cars in California foregoing an 18-mile trip.

Cenergistic officially presented the award to the SBCUSD Board of Education during the March 3 Board meeting.

“When we first partnered with Cenergistic back in 2012, we were mostly hoping to control rising utility costs,” said Superintendent Dr. Dale Marsden. “By having Cenergistic on board, they’ve been able to provide us with the support we need for energy management.”

To find savings, SBCUSD personnel work closely with Cenergistic engineers, experts, and the Energy Specialists to audit and optimize energy-using systems across the organization to achieve peak efficiency. The energy specialists track energy consumption at all campuses through state-of-the-art smart technology to identify and correct areas that need immediate attention.

“We commend San Bernardino’s administration and staff members for their commitment to the success of the energy program,” said Randy Hoff, vice chairman of Cenergistic. “Reaching this level of savings has had a significant impact on the District, and I am extremely pleased to present SBCUSD with our Energy Excellence Award.”

Cenergistic is a nationwide sustainability company. Since 1986, the company has helped 1,450 school districts, health care facilities, and government agencies find more than $5.6 billion in electricity, natural gas, and water savings by applying its advanced software platform.
