Dignity Health Foundation Forms to Support Health Care Needs of the Community

Dignity Health - Community Hospital of San Bernardino Foundation and St. Bernardine Medical Center Foundation have combined to form the Dignity Health Foundation – Inland Empire.

The role of the new foundation is to initiate philanthropic initiatives and secure financial support for the two Dignity Inland Empire hospitals, as well as community health initiatives and programs that positively affect the social determinants of health.

“We’ve been working on this merger for almost two years”, says Tony Myrell, chair of the Dignity Health Foundation – Inland Empire. “The process involved working with each hospital board, Dignity Health corporate, the state of California, and of course the boards of the two original foundations. As always, donors can be assured that 100 percent of their contributions will be used for the purposes they request.”

The Foundation is led by a Board of Directors made up of community leaders who are committed to advancing Dignity Health’s mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality, affordable health services; serve and advocate for our sisters and brothers who are poor and disenfranchised; and partner with others in the community to improve the quality of life.

“The board is optimistic about our future and is dedicated to raising funds to assist the foundation in achieving its goals”, states Julie Bearie, 1st vice-chair of the Foundation. “The creation of the Foundation provides for a more efficient and effective organization, eliminating redundancies, and better represents our efforts to raise money for our community.”

The new Foundation absorbed the existing restricted philanthropic funds for each hospital and maintains their campus and restricted purposes. Donors to the Foundation can support their hospital campus of choice or can choose to support other programs offered by Dignity Health in the Inland Empire.
