An evening of 18th century masterpieces by Handel, Telemann and Mozart will fill Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Redlands when the Redlands Symphony stages its second concert of the 2014-15 season on Saturday, Nov. 22, with Maestro Jon Robertson conducting. Symphony concerts begin at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m., and there will be a pre-concert conversation about the program presented by the evening’s solo performer, principal trumpet, Dave Scott, at 7:15 p.m. Single tickets are available at the door starting at $15. The complete program for the evening’s performance includes Water Music No. 1, HWV 348, by George Frideric Handel, the Trumpet Concerto in D major, TWV 51:D7 by Georg Philipp Telemann and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 55 “Jupiter.” The orchestra’s principal trumpet player, David Scott, will perform Telemann’s Trumpet Concerto. ”This is some of the classical repertoire’s most glorious music,” according to Maestro Robertson. “To have David Scott, our own phenomenally talented principal trumpet player, featured as the soloist for the Telemann piece will be as exciting for me to conduct as it will be for our audience to enjoy.” Scott has been Principal Trumpet of the Redlands Symphony since 1998 and is also the orchestra’s personnel manager. Active as a freelance trumpeter throughout the Southern California area, Scott is Associate Principal Trumpet of the New West Symphony and Principal Trumpet in the Riverside County Philharmonic and San Bernardino Symphony. As a substitute or extra, he has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, and LA Opera. In addition to his work as a recitalist and clinician, Dave has been a soloist with the Redlands Symphony, New West Symphony, Riverside County Philharmonic, Redlands Bowl Festival Orchestra, and the Ventura Symphony. His studio and recording credits include three historically albums with the Americus Brass Band entitled Music of the Civil War, The Americus Brass Band Recreates The Dodge City Cow-Boy Band, and Wild West Music of Buffalo Bill’s Cowboy Band. Dave may also be heard on the movie soundtracks Geronimo, Son of the Morning Star, the Tri-Star motion picture Glory, the IMAX presentation The Alamo, and CBS’s Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. He can be heard (and seen) in the movie Hidalgo. In his youth, Scott toured extensively with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Americus Brass Band. The Civil War “styled” Americus Brass Band performs exclusively on period instruments. He has performed authentic solos with the band on both E-flat and B-flat cornets. Scott received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Iowa and his doctorate in trumpet performance from the University of Southern California. Sharing God’s many blessings as a performer and as a teacher has been a joy for Dave since he began playing trumpet in 1971. In 2007 Scott joined the faculty at the University of Redlands where he is Associate Professor of Trumpet, the Director of the Studio Big Band and conductor of the University Symphonic Band. In his spare time, Scott enjoys boating, barbequing and gardening with his beautiful wife Janis; their children, Chuck, Greg, Gina, and Jacob; and their four grandkids, Chuckie, Peyton, Petra, and Tehani. The sponsors for the November concert are Robin and David Maupin. The 2014-15 season sponsors are Ann and Vaughn Bryan.
