Moreno Valley was honored to present the City's first Latino Film Festival and Art Walk. The City held the Cinema Culturas Film Festival and First Annual Moreno Valley Art Walk at Harkins Theatres in the Moreno Valley Mall. This weekend-long celebration of the arts took place October 27th through October 29th.

The first day of the festival began with a fantastic Gala Night and showcase of art created by 15 local artists. Artists Tony Lavall, Shaz Hunter, Jessica Cruz, and Maurice Howard were in attendance to meet Art Walk visitors.

A screening of Esteban, an award-winning and uplifting film about a gifted nine-year-old pianist followed the Art Walk. Many viewers left the theater expressing feelings of deep admiration and inspiration. A variety of award-winning and award-nominated films were shown throughout the weekend including feature films, documentaries, short films and animated shorts.

Cinema Culturas also offered a selection of student film screenings. Students from three Moreno Valley schools were able to screen films they created; filmmakers and their parents stayed on site to answer questions.

Attendees enjoyed an array of Latin cuisine, listened to keynote speakers, and marveled at the festival’s upscale offerings.

Cinema Culturas concluded with a special screening of the newly restored film, The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez. Attendees had the unique opportunity to engage in a question and answer session with the film's Director Robert Young and film scholar Dr. Carlos Cortez. Guests and festival staff were honored with a special appearance from the legendary actor and star of the film Edward James Olmos.
