The Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce recognized Moreno Valley Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora as its 2020 Citizen of the Year, at the Chamber's Annual Installation and Awards Banquet located at the March Field Air Museum on Friday, February 7, 2020.

2020 Chairman Debbie Church, Riverside Medical Clinic and Oscar Valdepeña, President/CEO, Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce along with 2019 Citizen of the Year Iddo Benzeevi presented the 2020 Citizen of the Year Award to Dr. Martinrex Kedziora, Superintendent of the Moreno Valley Unified School District.

“I am very touched to be named the Citizen of the Year by the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce,” said Dr. Kedziora. “This award was a complete surprise to me. I strive to do my best as superintendent of the Moreno Valley Unified School District under the leadership of our Board of Education, but I don’t expect to be recognized this way for my service. I am honored for this recognition and I congratulate all the nominees as they, too, have made a positive impact in the community.”

Dr. Martinrex Kedziora is the 14th Superintendent of Schools for the Moreno Valley Unified School District, which serves approximately 33,000 students. In his ten year tenure with the district, the graduation rate has increased from 65.7% to 91.2%, an increase of 25.5%, higher than the state and national level.

In addition to being a Superintendent, Dr. Kedziora is also involved as the Board Chairman for the California League of Schools (CLS), an organization which serves teachers and administrators K-12. He is also a committee member of the Urban Education Committee for the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), among various other educational organizations.

“He is a phenomenal leader and is very deserving of this award,” said School Board President Dr. Marsha Locke. “We are proud to have someone like him leading our district. He does so much for our students and for the members of our community.”

As a resident of Moreno Valley, Dr. Kedziora is heavily involved in the community by attending various events, ceremonies, religious gatherings and local organization meetings. He recently created the Hearts YOUnited kindness campaign, inviting members of the community to become part of a Community Collaborative to become mentors for Moreno Valley Unified School District students and partnered with the Anne Frank House and Freedom Writers Foundation to inspire and empower students to make a positive change in their community.
