Centerpoint Launches Successful Food Drive

Last week Centerpoint Church of Colton launched its first food drive amid the winding down of the shelter-in-place requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Little by little, Governor Newsom is rolling out phase 2 of the recovery plan, to allow for some drive-in activity, retail sales at the curb, and some opening of establishment with respect to social distancing.

To rally the membership and raise the spirits of those in need, Pastors Dane Aaker and Josue Zapata led an enthusiastic troop of approximately 30 members, all with face coverings, to collect, sort, organize and distribute boxes of food and resource supplies to people who are in need, and those who may have been financially affected by the loss of a job or cutting of hours.  The event was held in open air in the parking lot of Centerpoint Church, located at 170 West F Street.

No matter who drove up,  there was plenty of food and love to go around, thanks to the church membership, the San Bernardino County Human Services Department and Mary’s Mercy Center.

“Were excited to work with the County of San Bernardino and Mary’s Mercy Center to provide food and supplies to those in need,” says Pastor Josue Zapata.  Among the helpers on that day, included Council Member Bill Hussey, from Grand Terrace, C.L. Lopez, Human Services Communications Officer from San Bernardino County, and Council Member Dr. G.  There were also a few new members, including Betty Morgan, who came to lend a hand, “I love it. To join in this event is a great opportunity to help the people.”
