Sinfonia Mexicana Mariachi Youth Academy will present a “Dia de los Muertos Concert – A Tribute to the Music of Coco” to raise funds for its music education program.  Featured performers will include the Youth Academy, Mariachi Voces de Jalisco, Los Hermanos Baeza, and Ballet Folklorico Flores del Desierto.  The concert is on Sunday, October 21, 2018, 3:00 PM. at Whitmer Auditorium, Colton High School, 777 W. Valley Blvd., Colton, CA  92324.

We invite the community and students to become part of the experience by dressing in Dia de los Muertos attire or a favorite character from the highly acclaimed movie Coco.  Calavera face painting will be available but we encourage you to arrive dressed in your best “muerto style”. This celebration promises to be a truly visual and culturally engaging experience for the entire family.

Visit the transformation of the auditorium grounds as you walk among showcased family ofrendas and altars (family tributes), delighting in the artistic displays of traditional colors, dance and sounds.  Applications are still being accepted to display family ofrendas/altars for those who wish to honor their loved ones.  Space is limited, please call to reserve now.

We encourage your early arrival to explore and participate in the before-concert activities beginning at 2:00 p.m.  The auditorium doors open at 2:00.

Tickets are $25 and $20, and may be purchased in advance at Leno’s Rico Taco, 549 W. Valley Blvd., Colton; online at Eventbrite.com; or in person.  For ticket information, or to reserve space for ofrendas/altars, please call (909) 744-2176.  Event sponsorships are still available - Sinfonia Mexicana is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

Mariachi Youth Academy

Sinfonia Mexicana of San Bernardino founded the Mariachi Youth Academy in February 2009 to provide a music education for area youth who did not have access to an arts education and its benefits.  The Academy students learn to read music, understand music theory, play their instrument, perform mariachi music, and excel academically.

Since its founding, the Academy has provided a music education to over 500 students from across the Inland Empire. Applications are currently being accepted for youth who would like to be part of a life-changing music education program.
