SAN BERNARDINO >> California State University, San Bernardino has been listed as one of nation’s top diverse universities in awarding degrees, especially to Hispanics, according to rankings from the magazine “Diverse Issues in Higher Education.” The rankings are based on an analysis of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees awarded during the 2014-2015 academic school year that has been reported by the U.S. postsecondary institutions to the U.S. Department of Education. In awarding bachelor’s degrees, CSUSB was listed among the top 10 colleges and universities conferring degrees to Hispanics. The university received third place for conferring degrees in the fields of mathematics and statistics; fifth place for business administration, management and operations, and psychology; and ranked eighth place for degrees in homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting and related protective services, liberal arts and sciences, general studies and humanities, and parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies. CSUSB was also listed among the top 10 colleges and universities awarding master’s degrees to Hispanics. The university received sixth place for awarding degrees in the fields of mathematics and statistics and seventh place for degrees in English language and literature/letters. In conferring master’s degrees collectively to African American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American students, CSUSB was listed among the top 10 colleges and universities in the fields of mathematics and statistics, ranking in 10th place. “The rankings reflect our commitment to opening more doors to higher education for our diverse communities as well as ensuring that, once here, our students successfully complete their studies and graduate,” said Tomás D. Morales, CSUSB President. “It’s gratifying to be considered among the nation’s leading universities in that many of our students are the first in their families to be awarded college degrees.” CSUSB was also among the leading colleges and universities in awarding bachelor’s degrees collectively to African American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American students. The ranks are as follows: 14th place in the fields of mathematics and statistics; 15th place in the fields of homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting and related protective services; 16th place in the fields of parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies; 17th place in the field of psychology; 19th place in the fields of business administration, management and operations; and 19th place in the fields of liberal arts and sciences, general studies and humanities.
