Voice of the People: Hussey/Stanckiewitz is Bad for Grand Terrace

The community splitting tax initiative and subsequent failure of Measure C last year exposed a lot about our mayor. The first public push for that open-ended utility tax was presented at a public workshop in 2013 by then-Councilman Sandoval, who suggested an ad hoc committee to review the financial status of GT and recommend a tax to be put on the 2013 ballot. The information given to the 12-member committee was drawn up by the head of the finance department. He and then-City Manager Betsy Adams sat with us through 6 meetings “guiding us” though this process. These are the same two people who publicly admitted right after the election that they withheld over $100,000 from the financial reports since January, NINE MONTHS! During that time Mayor Stanckiewitz was micromanaging the city manager but claims he knew nothing about the money. He claims no more involvement than the rest of the council who had to vote unanimously to put it on the ballot. Most people don’t know: That Stanckiewitz held the kickoff fundraiser at his home for the “Yes on Measure C” PAC filed with the FPPC by his sidekick Sandoval. That the Election night party was held at the Stanckiewitz home... short party. Or remember the mayor’s threats and intimidation of a recently returned veteran handing out flyers against Measure C in his parking lot? He served overseas to preserve our freedom of speech only to return to our mayor’s oppression? The mayor filed a complaint with the FPPC that included the veteran, people buying ads against and the “No on Measure C” PAC supporters as well as pictures of everyone’s house who had a “NO” sign in their yard. He is not a mayor for the Chamber, Lions Club, Woman’s Club or anyone else that disagrees with him. Go to the City News Group video: http://grandterrace.citynewsgroup.com/articles/c553d315e773c3bbfd062f5697d377e5 and see your mayor M.I.A. Also see Hussey’s lack of knowledge and experience. Hussey served on that ad hoc committee with me and supported that crazy tax as well as the mayor. For the record, the committee’s final vote was 11-1.
