County Waste Department Provides Free Hazardous-Waste Service in Moreno Valley

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources offers additional free service that supplements the existing household hazardous-waste collection program. The department recently added an antifreeze, battery, oil, paint (ABOP) and PaintCare Facility at its Badlands Landfill. The service is available for free to Riverside County residents from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during non-holiday Saturdays. It is located at 31125 Ironwood Avenue in Moreno Valley. The ABOP and PaintCare Facility will provide an opportunity for Riverside County residents to keep household hazardous waste out of landfills and ensure that it is properly managed. The facility will accept residentially generated recyclable household hazardous wastes from Riverside County residents only. Business or non-profit waste will not be accepted. Typical waste that is accepted at the facility includes antifreeze, household and automotive batteries, used motor oil and filters, paints, cooking oil, aerosols, mercury containing equipment, fluorescent bulbs/tubes, and electronic wastes such as televisions, computers, VCRs and telephones. The amount of waste transported can be no more than 15 gallons, or 125 pounds, per vehicle. Individual containers should be no larger than five gallons or weigh more than 50 pounds. The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) provided funding through the Used Oil Competitive Grant Program for the purchase equipment needed to provide this service. The ABOP and PaintCare Facility is subject to close during inclement weather or for other hazardous conditions as determined by the department.
