“Spring Ring” Telephone Town Hall Meeting

MORENO VALLEY>> Parents within the Moreno Valley Unified School District, will receive a phonecall at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2. Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora will be calling to talk with parents about the many Measure M construction and modernization projects taking place; a rethinking of the plan for High School 5; and a review of the district’s many academic options, such as International Baccalaureate, full-day kindergarten, dual-language immersion, Moreno Valley Online Academy and more.

The Telephone Town Hall Meeting, which MVUSD has used with great success twice a year since 2014, is a way of engaging the public in discussion by coming to them instead of asking them to attend a meeting.  “It’s not easy for parents to attend an evening meeting, so we want to make it as easy as possible for them to participate,” said Dr. Kedziora. “They can listen to the conversation or join in by submitting questions in English or Spanish.”

In a talk-radio-type format, parents are be able to ask questions related to the topic. The call lasts for one hour and is free of charge. Parents can listen in for as much of the hour as they like.

Whereas a meeting might draw as few as 10 or 15 people, previous Telephone Town Hall Meetings have reached thousands of parents, with more than 500 staying on the line for the entire hour last October for the “Fall Call.” The upcoming call on May 2, called the “Spring Ring,” will focus on bringing parents up to speed on what is new and what is planned at MVUSD.

“Our mission is to ensure all students graduate high school prepared to successfully enter into higher education and/or pursue a viable career path,” Kedziora said.  “We want to talk with parents about how we’re doing that and get their thoughts and ideas. Our Strategic Plan also calls on us to communicate with all our stakeholders, so that’s what we’re doing.”
